International Dark Sky Week 22-28th April 2017

 To celebrate International Dark Sky Week 2017 (22-28th April) there are lots of events planned in the Mayo Dark Sky Park area. Exciting events are taking place in Newport, Mulranny and Ballycroy throughout the week and hopefully we will see you there.

FREE INTERNATIONAL DARK SKY WEEK EVENTS IN MAYO

Title:  A Little Night Art – Pauline McSorley & Deirdre Kelleghan

Description:  An evening connecting art and philosophy with astronomy and our night skies with artist Pauline McSorley and Deirdre Kelleghan (Astronomical artist, Astronomer & Educator)

Date:  Wednesday 26th April

Venue:  7.30pm – Mulranny Community Centre

Title:  Wellbeing & Community on the Dark Sky Island of Sark – Ada Blair

Description:  Edinburgh based psychotherapist & eco-psychologist Ada Blairvisits Mayo for the first time as part of International Dark Sky Week. Her talk will explore the positive impact on community wellbeing that dark skies offer

Date:  Thursday 27th April

Venue:  6.00pm – GMIT Mayo (Castlebar Campus)

Title:  Measuring the Heavens – Newport Astronomy Club

Description:  A talk from Newport Astronomy Club’s Derek Dempsey on the work of Edmund Halley in measuring astronomical distances & the first global scientific project.

Date:  Thursday 27th April

Venue:  8.00pm – Gráinne Uaile, Newport
