Newport Lighting Project – Open Evening

Biodiversity Week 13-22nd May

Monday 16th May
Join us in Newport for an Open Evening to launch the next phase of the community Lighting Project for the town. The Friends of Mayo Dark Skies obtained support from The Heritage Council, and a new pilot test for lighting begins in Newport with expert lighting designer Kerem Asfuroglu.
Community members are invited to ask questions and see the plans at the Open evening. We will be working late into the night with audits and lighting demonstrations, so do call by for a chat if you are in town.
Venue: Hotel Newport
Time: 7pm to 7.30pm

LUNAR Eclipse – 4am Mon 16th May
Also – if you are lucky enough to have a clear weather forecast OVERNIGHT (early hours of 16th), do try and check out the Total Lunar Eclipse!
With information kindly provided by Astronomer Terry Moseley:
More than half of this eclipse is visible from Ireland. The further West and South you are, the better the view, as the Moon sets later there. The penumbral phase, which is barely noticeable, starts at 02.30; the Moon enters the umbra at 03.27, and totality starts at 04.28. Mid eclipse occurs at 05.11am.
