Mayo Events for Irish Astronomy Week  |  9th to 16th March 2024

From the 9th to 16th March, the 2024 iteration of Irish Astronomy Week takes place from Your Garden to the Stars…with indoors and outdoor events throughout the thirty-two counties. Also, during that week astronomers of all ages can enjoy a beautiful celestial view of the skies with expert information.  

In Mayo we have several events taking place at our Dark Sky Park:

8th March 8pm – Dark Sky Walk in Mayo Dark Sky Park. Led by Georgia MacMillan, this is part of the weekly dark sky walks series. Guiding small groups through the dark sky park after dark.  Walk starts at Brogan Carroll Bothy, Letterkeen Trail Head


11th March 6pm – Seanie Morris, Science Communicator  “Rocket Workshop” in Ballycroy Visitor Centre, Wild Nephin National Park

12th March 7pm – Derek Dempsey FRAS, Founder of Newport Astronomy Club “Tour of the Solar System” Talk in Ballycroy Visitor Centre, Wild Nephin National Park

15th March 7.30pm  – Ronan Newman, Founder of Irish Astronomy Week.  The Aurora Borealis in Mayo; From Superstitions to the Digital Age”
